This is a MODERN REPRODUCTION of a 1912 Maine Motorcycle license plate.
It is baked vitreous porcelain enamel on a heavy ferrous (either thick steel or wrought iron) base.
It weighs a little over 12 ounces, and measures 6 by 7 3/16 inches.
It closely approximates a genuine Maine 1912 motorcycle license plate; But the characters on it are black rather than the very dark purplish blue of the originals. Also, the shape of the characters is not exactly the same as on the originals (You can see these differences by comparing this reproduction to a genuine Maine 1912 Passenger Car, or Dealer license plate, if you are not one of the fortunate few who owns a genuine Maine 1912 Motorcycle license plate.).
The “ING – RICH” logo on the back is very close to, but not identical to, the logo on genuine Maine 1912 license plates.
You could use this on a 1912 Motorcycle, as a display accessory.
Or, use it to fill that 1912 space in your Maine motorcycle plate run.
Maine only issued porcelain motorcycle plates  for the 1905- 1911 run (Red background with white characters) and 1912 (similar to this reproduction, but not exactly the same)
Maine Motorcycle license plates for 1913, 1914, and 1915 were 2 by 6 inch curved vertical brass strips. These are super rare. From 1916 on, Maine Motorcycle plates were steel or aluminum, concurrent with the passenger car plates of a given year. They are all pretty tough to find until the 1960’s era.
Genuine Maine 1912 Motorcycle License plates are notoriously hard to locate, in any condition.
Here is your chance to an example of a quality REPRODUCTION for your collection at a reasonable price.
Please check my other license plates on ebay; I can combine multiple purchases of them to save you on postage.
